Continuous Flow Hydrolysis of Sunflower Oil Using Sub-critical Water
نویسنده
چکیده
The use of sub-critical water has recently been proven to be a successful medium for conducting hydrolysis reactions without employing acid or alkali catalysts. This work presents the usage of sub-critical water as both solvent and reactant for the continuous flow hydrolysis of sunflower oil (triglyceride) in a tubular reactor. The hydrolysis products of sunflower oil are fatty acids and glycerol. Fatty acids are an important intermediate product for many industrial applications. Experiments were undertaken between pressures of 100 to 200 bar and temperatures of 270 to 350 oC. The water to oil ratio was 50:50 v/v. Fatty acid was found to act as an acid catalyst that allowed a simple process and high yield. The rate of the hydrolysis was enhanced by increasing temperature and residence time. The highest yield up to 90% was obtained at the conditions of 8 minutes reaction time, 50:50 v/v water oil ratio, 200 bar and 350 oC. The results show promise for integration of a continuous flow hydrolysis and an esterification process into a one step continuous procedure for biodiesel production.

Modeling the Rheological Properties of Carboxymethylcellulose Stabilized O/W Emulsions Based on Sunflower Oil and Tallow Fat
The aim of this research was to assess the effect of fat type and concentration as well as the continuous phase viscosity on the rheological properties of an oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion. Thus, sunflower oil and tallow fat were used as the dispersed phase of the emulsion both at 10 and 50% (w/v) and CMC solutions (at 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5% w/v) were acted as the continuous phase. CMC solutions and em...
متن کاملChanges in Enzyme Efficiency During Lipase-Catalyzed Hydrolysis of Canola Oil in a Supercritical Bioreactor
Enzyme efficiency was investigated in the lipase-catalyzed hydrolysis of canola oil in supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2). Immobilized lipase from Mucor miehie (Lipozyme IM) was used as the catalyst and the results showed that enzyme efficiency dropped at high pressures indicating a possible change in enzyme microstructure. Therefore, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used...

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of di-sodium fumarate (DSF) and thyme essential oil (TEO) solely and simultaneously on ruminal fermentation properties and microbial abundance. A dual-flow continuous culture system (DFCC) with eight 1400-mL fermenters was used in a period of 12 d that divided to 9 d for adaptation and 3 d for sampling. Fermenters were fed 100 g d...

Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) was used as solvent to synthesize oleyl oleate as an analog of Jojoba oil from oleic acid and oleyl alcohol with high conversion (100%) of the acid into ester in a short time of 100 min. Utilizing a low cost solid catalyst, p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (PTSA), the esterification reaction was performed, without any prior preparation step...
